Perianal Abscess
- In this condition there is an infection of the anal gland which are present in
anal area between external and internal sphincter muscle.
- There is a painful swelling at the perianal area, difficulty in sitting,
occasionally fever.
- It may open up later with pus discharge relieving pain but the disease
progresses and develop fistula in ano
Fistula in ano
- This is the complicated stage of perianal abscess where a tract is developed
from the internal aspect of anal canal to the perianal skin.
- The patient has a non-healing ulcer with a swelling and discharging pus.
Both the above diseases is managed surgically.
- Patient is advised to consult the specialist at the earliest without delay for
good prognosis
- Surgery in Perianal Abscess : Incision and drainage.
- Surgery in Fistula in Ano : Fistulectomy; Lay open the tract, excision of the tract,
coring out the tract and occasionally primary closure
- It’s a curable condition but recurrence can occur. In the experienced surgeon
the recurrence rate is much less.
